Foster Falls, Foster Falls, Virgina

During the summer, we make heavy use of this park for our Voyager Trek program as it's located on the New River.

There is a canoe livery with rentals; canoes, kayaks and tubes. For those with the canoeing skills, the livery can transport to Austinville for an easy run which includes the technical and ledgy Class II Shot Tower Rapids on the way back to the campground. About 4 miles of paddling. If considering running the falls (not recommended for the novice), River Left.

Food can be purchased at Ft. Chiswell, a small town about 8 miles out.

Sites for camping are plenty, which includes sites for groups, as well as camping on Baker's Island. Pit toilets, no showers, potable water is supplied via a communal water buffalo. During the summer, the weather is mild, and a nice break from the tidewater heat. Fishing is best below the falls.

Canoe trail looks fantastic
by: Jewel

Thank you so much for sharing this campground with us.

Since I love our Peace River canoe overnighter so much I took a good look at this one. This looks like it has so many fascinating things to see...bat caves, the shot tower...I definitely want to do it sometime in the future.

This part of the state park has four different campgrounds but all appear to be primitive. One does have toilets but none seem to have running water.

This particular campground is definitely not for the first time camper...but once you have a little experience under your belt it looks like it would be a blast!
